NEW YORK DRAFT RIOTS]. New York: Druck der New-Yorker Abend-Zeitung, 24 July 1863.
NEW YORK DRAFT RIOTS]. New York: Druck der New-Yorker Abend-Zeitung, 24 July 1863. Broadside (18 x 12 in.), printed entirely in Gothic types, neatly linen-backed, small stain at top margin. A German-language version of the same text as the previous lot, clearly aimed at the large German-speaking population of New York City and printed in the offices of a German-language newspaper on the Bowery. It appeals to workers not to be drawn into the violent street disorders and urges them to resist the inflammatory rhetoric of rabble-rousers: "well-dressed demagogues" who "safely stand aside on the sidelines." It proclaims that "The patriotic worker of the North is no murderer, he finds no satisfaction in killing his fellow man. Be wise, and before all--Do Not Unchain the Tiger!"
