NEW YORK - CONSTITUTION] Journal of the Convention of the State of New York; Held at Poughkeepsie, in Dutchess County, the 17th of June, 1788 . Poughkeepsie: Nicholas Power, [1788]. 20th century cloth. 10 3/4 x 8 1/2 inches (27.8 x 22 cm); 86 pp., without printed slip on p. 5 noted in some copies by Evans. A wide, uncut copy, title and first leaf with faint stamps and spotting, two discreet repairs, a faint old dampstain to margin of first and last leaves, internally quite clean. A very good copy of a scarce work recording the proceedings of the convention at Poughkeepsie regarding the Federal Constitution. While OCLC reports 32 institutional copies, we find only two copies in the auction record, the first a defective copy offered in 1981, the second the Murphy copy from 1884. This, along with the preceeding work, are the two major reports of the New York Convention, where the Constitution was hotly debated by Hamilton, Jay and others. Evans 21313. C The New York City Bar Association
