A shoulder-length portrait of the 'The Girl in the Red Velvet Swing,' inscribed on mount verso: "With best wishes to 'Dearest' Evelyn." Very rare. "America's first supermodel... Her fatal beauty led to the murder of architect Stanford White by Harry K. Thaw in 1906, and the scandal made her the best-known woman in America. Toward the end of her long life she is said to have commented: 'Stanford White was the lucky one. He died.' The identity of 'Dearest,' to whom the photograph is inscribed on the back, is unknown"--W.M.
