Elzevier, 1655, 12mo, cont. blinst. pigskin (rubbed), inktitled spine (wormed), pin fastening with 2 metal clasps on leather tongues, 569-[7] pp. (marg. toning, some minor spotting, stain in blank bottom margin of 1st quires). Good copy.
1st of 3 Elzevier eds of the popular satirical "roman à clef" on courtly life by J. Barclay (1582-1621), a Scottish writer living in France. With the (later) key to fictional characters. Engr. title . Cont. ownership entries on title (partly erased) and on front endpaper and flyleaf. Ref. Willems 1180. Oberlé 301. STCN (i.a. BL). Joined : Godfroid, Pierre - De amoribus, libri tres. Leiden, J. Maire, 1648, 12mo, 19th-c. half leather (rubbed, loosening at end), marbl. paper on covers, marbl. edges, [12]-408 pp. (paper age-toned, some spotting). Good copy. Treatise on marital and other love (1st Lyon 1552) by the French lawyer P. Godfroid (d. 1573). With chapters on “de amore contra naturam, de incestu, de adulterio, de raptu, de stupro, de fornicatione”, all with literary quotations and allusions.
