NELSON, Horatio, Admiral (1750-1805). Two autograph letters signed ('Nelson & Bronte'), the first to Dr. Baird, n.p. [Amazon, off the Downs], 22 September 1801 , showing great anxiety at Lieutenant Parker's illness and sending his respects to Mr. Parker (his father) and 'to our Parker say everything which is kind from me, when it is proper', adding 'I am miserably sea-sick', one page, 4° (integral address leaf partly cut away not affecting writing, tape repairs on verso and covering first letters of two words) ; the second to Major General Villettes, Victory, 25 November 1804 , enclosing a letter (not present) about four deserters, with instructions for them to be delivered to the Madras if they enter the Corps at Malta, commenting 'Nothing from England it is very extraordinary, nor from Gib r since Oct r 22nd', one page, 4°, integral blank leaf (repaired at folds on verso) . Emma HAMILTON (?1761-1815). Two autograph letters signed, the first to an unidentified correspondent ('Dear Sir'), n.p. [Merton], n.d. [8 September 1802] , referring to a letter from 'Horace' (i.e. Horatia), and to a recent visit, 'Dear Birmingham, I shall ever love it for its Dear Kind Inhabitants. Lord Nelson and Sir Wm's kind compliments', one page, 8° ; together with a letter by Horatia Nelson thanking her correspondent for gifts of medals and buttons, and a box and inkstand sent to Lady Hamilton, and an autograph cover signed by Nelson ('Nelson & Bronte'), addressed to Timothy Smith Esq., Low Bailiff of Birmingham; the second autograph letter signed to an unidentified correspondent (Sir John Acton , n.p. [Naples], n.d. [February, 1798] , pressing him to attend a ball, ½ page, 8° , with Acton's letter of acceptance. Sir William HAMILTON (1730-1803). Autograph letter signed to J.B. Burgess, Naples, 12 June 1793 , on the prospects for peace, also mentioning that 'Lady Hamilton receives from the Court and Nobility every honour and distinction. She applies to language and musick with great assiduity', 4 pages, 4° . Arthur Wellesley, first Duke of WELLINGTON (1769-1852). Autograph letter signed to W. Leake Esq., London, 12 June 1838 , referring to the meeting on the memorial to Lord Nelson, 1½ pages, 4° (integral blank leaf) ; together with 8 small engraved portraits, and a few printed items, three of the letters affixed with tape inside the upper cover and the remainder tipped on guards between the leaves of J.T. Herbert BAILY Emma, Lady Hamilton , London: 1905. 4° (295 x 225mm), bound in green morocco (spine slightly faded). The first letter was written shortly after Nelson's protégé, Lieut. Edward Parker, was gravely wounded in an engagement with the French, and a week before Parker died. The letters to the Low Bailiff of Birmingham refer to Nelson's visit to the city in 1801, in company of the Hamilton's and Horatia Nelson, dubbed in the press 'Lord Nelson's Tourists'. They visited Wales and the Midlands, and in Birmingham attended the theatre and toured factories. Medals were struck in honour of the occasion.
