Lot of 2 CDVs, featuring 1873 studio portrait of "Ned Buntline, Buffalo Bill & Texas Jack," as captioned on mount, likely taken by Howell in New York City in 1873. Cody and his first two stage partners are shown in their performance attire; and an uncredited, full-standing studio view of Edward Zane Judson, or "Ned Buntline," as identified on mount, wearing a frontier scout costume and holding a percussion rifle, ca 1872. Known as the “dime millionaire,” Ned Buntline (1821-1886) wrote popular short novels that highly romanticized the West, penning over 400 novels and countless other stories and articles. In 1872, he convinced a young Cody to go on the stage in a western melodrama titled "The Scouts of the Prairie," written and played in by Judson. They were joined by Texas Jack Omohundro, and the trio opened in Chicago on December 18, 1872. Cody did not leave show business until his death in 1917. Condition: Photo of three: even toning, image has lightened a bit, minor spotting. Photo of Buntline, image has lightened a bit, even toning, few spots. Each with some light corner wear to mount.
