Beschreibung:

Testacea Microscopica aliaque Minuta ex Generibus Argonauta et Nautilus; Ad Naturam Delineata et Descripta. Vienna (Wien), 1803. In Latin and German. 8vo, marbled paper boards, leather spine with gilt bands and lettering, 123pp, erratum and 24 plates. In any field, the acquisition and organization of data is the first essential step, before any analysis can begin. The first foraminifera were described in 1731, and the collective term introduced a century later. This work, first published in 1798, was an essential intermediary in the understanding of this group of organisms. Fichtel and Moll collected samples along the Mediterranean and Indian Ocean, and virtually every study subsequently published cites this valuable early work. Condition: Light toning and scattered foxing, wear to boards, bumped corners with leather of corners just about gone. Water damage to top edge up to about p100.
