Beschreibung:

Hibbath Zion, The Philosophy of the pre-Zionist Palestinophile Movement, By Nahum Sokolow, Author of "The History of Zionism" etc. [Britain, ca. early 1930s]. English. The "manuscript" of Nahum Sokolow's book on the subject of "Palestinophilia" that precedes Zionism and Herzl (from the years 1840-1897) - the sources of the Hibbath Zion movement and its influence on religion, literature and life; with chapter-long monographs of leaders and personalities involved with Zionism, and chapters on the philosophy of the Zionist Jewish revival. The present "manuscript" seems like a final version of the book, and it includes markings and typographical notes prior to printing. Nevertheless, the typewritten leaves contain endless corrections, changes, notes and additions in the hand of Nahum Sokolow, at times paragraphs or entire pages, added in the margins or on notes glued to the printed leaves. Some of the glosses and corrections are in the hand of Israel Meir Lask, who prepared the manuscript for printing. The book was published in Jerusalem in 1934 by the L. Meir and Reuben Mass publishing house under the title "Hibbath Zion, the love for Zion, stating the principles and activities of the Pre-Herzl palestinophile…". On the first leaves are ink stamps reading "From the library of E. Z. Raziel" - Elhanan Zvi (Henry) Raziel (Raczkowski) was the husband of Sofia, Nahum Sokolow's daughter. [2] leaves (title page and dedication), 9 leaves (contents), XV-XVI (only two leaves from the introduction and foreword; originally 32 leaves); 349 leaves (the book itself), [13] index leaves, 32 cm on average. Fair condition. Wear, creases and tears to leaf margins. Stains. Some of the leaves are glued together. Provenance: Estate of Sokolow-Raczkowski families.
