N/A ... Paris: Imprimerie Royale, 1756. Six volumes, contemporary French calf, spines gilt, all edges marbled. 6 3/8 x 4 inches (16 x 9.5 cm); iii. 321 pp., with folding map; vi, 363 pp.; vi, 278 pp.; vii, 331 pp.; x, 335 pp.; xxi, 438 pp. A few volumes with rubbed areas, generally a pretty set, with the contemporary bookplate of Maria Sigismund Frider. The volumes are as follows: 1. The Commissioners for Adjusting the Boundaries for the British and French Possessions in America were de Silhouette, La Gallissionière, and the Abbe de la Ville; the English commissioners were William Shirley and William Mildmay. Sabin 47547 states that the fourth volume "...of this valuable work is very scarce, and seldom found with the others." Two more volumes were published the following year, but are rarely found with the set. The Princeton and Brown copies lack volumes, but this seems to conform to the Huntington copy. The map in the first volume shows the disputed area. A partial edition appeared the previous year from various publishers; a copy of the Amsterdam edition with the folding map engraved by Mortier (in a larger format) is included with this lot. It is superior to that in the 1756 edition. C
