MYSTERY TALES Nos. 43 and 50 * Lot of Two Comic Books Publisher: Atlas [Indicia: 20th Century Comic Corp.] Date Published: July 1956-February 1957 Description: #43: VG/Fine (5.0). Spine stress, small creased nick at top edge of front cover, small crease to top corner of front cover, distributor's mark ("N") to "M" in "MYSTERY." Cream to off-white pages. Cover: Bill Everett. Art: Pete Morisi, Ross Andru, Gene Colan, Bob Forgione, Robert Q. Sale, Vic Carrabotta. GPAnalysis: A 5.0 sold for $299 in 2/23. #50: Fine+ (6.5). Cover slightly miscut with excess white at spine, slight curve to spine, very light edge and corner wear, edges of back cover toned. Cream to tan pages. Cover: Bill Everett. Art: Angelo Torres, Robert Q. Sale, Ted Galindo, Vince Coletta, Gray Morrow, John Forte. GPAnalysis: A 6.5 sold for $230 in 12/18. Tepid post-Code thrillers, including a beautifully-drawn but banal Angelo Torres tale, and a Pete Morisi story in which a conscientious curio shop owner repatriates a stolen relic to its native land. The only unsavory action is in the ads, one of which offers a spy camera to help horndogs peep at beach bunnies undetected. A limited edition of ten hardcover catalogues is available, in addition to a few dozen softcovers. Fun reference, great keepsake, fully illustrated, chockablock with obscure facts, gags, bon mots. Softcovers are $40, deluxe hardcovers with dust jackets and limitation plates are $200. These books always go fast so don't delay. To order, contact ivan@pbagalleries.com. Consignments welcome for PBA's Fall 2023 Comic Book sale. Top prices for Pre-Code Horror, Golden Age, Silver Age, original art and ephemera. Find out why PBA is the new fan-fave of funnybook fiends.
