MUSICAL QUOTATIONS. A collection of autograph musical quotations and fragments, comprising: Johan STRAUSS (1825-1899). Autograph musical quotation signed ('Johann Strauss'), 19 January 1894, the opening of the aria 'O gold'ne Frucht am Lebensbaum' from Act II of Ritter Pasman , five bars on a single stave, half page, 8vo , on a card with embossed musical 'J' (neat split at horizontal fold below signature). Provenance : Robert von Schlumberger, Wien-Döbling (collector's stamp on verso); Franz LISZT (1811-1886). Autograph music manuscript, a fragment comprising 12 bars from a piano work, in one system of two staves on a portion cut from a larger leaf, approx 43 x 290mm , endorsed on verso by or on behalf of Liszt's housekeeper, Pauline Apel, 'Pauline Apel bescheinigt das die Noten von Liszt selbst sind. Weimar. Liszt Museum', fragments of red wax to verso (three vertical splits, repaired on verso with tape, losses to left margin and lower right corner); together with musical quotations signed by Charles GOUNOD (16 bars from the Act IV of Ulysse , inscribed to Mr de Beauchesne, 19 July 1856), Ruggiero LEONCAVALLO (2 bars from Roland , Berlin, 13 December 1904), Anton RUBINSTEIN (10 bars from a keyboard work, 'Allegro risoluto', inscribed to Adolf Müller Vienna, 15 September 1860) and Fritz KREISLER (three bars in a single stave, 19 March 1911).
