Moschus, Bion, and Theocritus. Moschi, Bionis, Theocriti elegantissimorum poetarum Idyllia aliquot, ab Henrico Stephano latina facta. Eiusdem carmina non diuersi ab illis argumenti. Venice: Paolo Manuzio, 1555 Henry Estienne's Latin version of the Greek poets, followed by his own Neo-Latin poems. 4to (200 x 140 mm). Roman and italic type, 27 lines plus headline. collation: A-G4: 28 leaves. Woodcut Aldine device on title- page and verso of final leaf, woodcut initials. (Foxing.) binding: Early nineteenth-century Parisian green, long-grained morocco (208 x 150 mm), signed by Bozerian le Jeune, decorated in blind and gilt, frame formed by single gilt fillet, inner frame of multiple blind fillets, gilt leafy décor at inner angles, spine with raised bands in six compartments, second gilt-lettered, others ornately gilt, inner dentelles gilt, pink silk liners. (Rubbing to spine ends.)
