Boston: Daniel Henchman 1721. 12 o (156 x 96 mm). (Title repaired with several letters of title and lines on verso in facsimile, lacking the advertisement leaf at end.) Red morocco gilt, edges gilt, by W. Pratt (rebacked preserving original spine); red morocco pull-off case by Zaehnsdorf. Provenance : Brayton Ives (bookplate, his library sold 1891). Second edition, with the four-page Supplement "by another hand" (John Cotton), summarizing the events of 1669-1691. "Nathaniel Morton, a nephew of Governor Bradford, was secretary to the General Court of Massachusetts from 1645, thus having favorable opportunities of gathering information. The work is arranged in chronological order, and is filled with particulars of the greatest interest. The voyage of the Mayflower is given in detail, as is also the story of the landing and first settlement of the Pilgrims. The text is interspersed with several elegiac poems, epitaphs, and acrostics" (Church 605, the first edition). Evans 2266; Howes M-851; Sabin 51013.
