Description Issigonis’ friend John Cooper owner of the Cooper Car Company and designer and builder of Formula One and rally cars, saw the potential of the Mini for competition. Issigonis was initially reluctant to see the Mini in the role of a performance car, but after John Cooper appealed to BMC management, the two men collaborated to create the Mini Cooper. The Austin Mini Cooper and Morris Mini Cooper debuted in 1961, and the more powerful Mini Cooper, dubbed the “S”, was developed in tandem and released in 1963 . First registered on the 2nd of December 1965, Cooper S Mark I was delivered new to Westover Garage Ltd, Bournemouth. Its second custodian owned the car for many years, before finally undergoing a ground-up restoration on the car in 2008 to the remarkable condition that it is found in today. Clearly undertaken as a labour of love, and costing a small fortune, this Cooper S now has the most remarkable and extensive history file. Filling a large Ringbinder are a swathe of invoices going back numerous years and depicting its restoration in great detail. Kept as original as possible, right down to its Hydroelastic suspension, this fantastic example of the more desirable Cooper S Mk I, has recently had a major service and is ready to be enjoyed by its new owner.
