Tschudi participated in the St. Louis Exposition of 1904 and was an active member of the Cincinnati Art Club. This monumental portrait, along with a similarly sized portrait of Abraham Lincoln in this same sale, might have been executed for the 1916 Presidential election pitting Woodrow Wilson against Charles Evans Hughes.
