The memoirs of Blaise de Montluc (1502-77), who fought in almost every war between 1521 to his death in 1577. In 1574 he became "maréchal de France". The Comentari are intended in part as a manual of instruction for young officers, in which Montluc gives a vivid picture of warfare at the time. The work also includes a description of his defence of Siena against the Imperialists in 1556.
