Alternating bands of precious red resin and gleaming mother-of-pearl are set in a framework of 18 karat white gold. Mother-of-pearl bands are inscribed with 13 signatures of selected representatives, one for each of the original colonies. The 13 stars encircling the cap and barrel are symbolic of the republic's first flag. This extraordinary instrument is finished with two rings studded with brilliant-cut diamonds.
