(A few leaves with a few spots.) Contemporary calf, spine in 6 compartments with 5 raised bands, brown and green lettering-pieces in 2, the rest gilt-decorated, red edges. Provenance : armorial bookplate with motto “Ab Aeterno.” FIRST EDITION of Montaigne’s 16th-century journey; his manuscript was found nearly 200 years after his death by Abbott Prunis, and was published by Antoine Gabriel Meunier de Quelon.
