MONROE, JAMES and JOHN QUINCY ADAMS, Presidents. Printed document signed by both ("James Monroe" as President, "John Quincy Adams" as Secretary of State), accomplished at New Bedford, 5 June 1820. One page, folio, edges untrimmed, large papered seal of the United States, second smaller papered seal, trifling repairs at top edge, but in unusually fine condition, accomplished in manuscript, countersigned by N. Mates, FOUR-LANGUAGE SHIP'S PAPERS (French, Spanish, English, Dutch) for the whaling vessel William & Eliza, captained by David Paddock, sailing from New Bedford to the "Pacific Ocean," with a cargo of "Provisions for the use of the Officers and Crew and Utensils for Obtaining a Cargo of Oil," with notary's signed attestation that Capt. Buchanan has "made oath that no Subjects of the present Belligerent powers have any part or portion of the said ship."
