MONEY, William Taylor Observations on the Expediency of Shipbuilding at Bombay, for the service of his Majesty, and of the East India Company , London: Longman, Hurst, Rees, Orme, & Browne, 1811. 8° (227 x 145mm). Engraved frontispiece portrait of Jamsetjee Bomanjee, the master shipbuilder, by W. Haines after E. Nash. (Very light offsetting onto title.) Contemporary wrappers, stitched as issued, uncut (head and tail of spine chipped, with slight loss of tail, a few small holes in spine). Provenance : "Given to me by Charles Forbes Esqre. M.P. April 22 1817 -- J. Radcliffe" (inscription on upper margin of title). Charles Forbes was a merchant in Bombay and a politician. FIRST EDITION. Money argued for the expansion of the Bombay shipbuilding yards. He also favoured the use of Indian teak for shipbuilding instead of British oak. Kress B.5872. With 6 other books, including John Ranking's Historical Researches on the Wars and Sports of the Mongols and Romans (London, 1826), John Taylor's Letters on India, Political, Commercial and Military (London, 1800), Edward Moor's A Narrative of Captain Little's Detachment (London, 1794) and Edward Lake's Plans and Views illustrating the Journals of the Sieges of the Madras Army in India in the years 1817, 1818 and 1819 (London, 1825).
