Hilt has brass guard pierced with an oak leaf motif and "USN" on a scroll, Phrygian helmet pommel embossed with oak leafs and an eagle, grip wrapped in white rayskin and brass wire. Guard wrapped with a gold bullion knot. Complete with a brass mounted black leather scabbard, the throat marked with a three line Ames address. Condition: Good. Blade mostly bright with scattered but large dark spots and areas of surface rust. Good traces of gilt finish remain on the hilt, grip wrap slightly shrunk with a narrow gap along the length.
