lot of 4. All from Patrass (now usually spelled Patras), Greece, to Jonah Warren or author's sister from Horace Love. Earliest is 4pp., 7.75 x 9.75", April 7, 1837. 2 additional sheets inserted, each 2pp. One dated April 24, 7.75 x 8.25", the other April 25, 1837, 7.77 x 9.5". Next is 4pp., 7.75 x 9.75", May 5, 1837. Third is 4pp., 7.75 x 9.75", Sept 23, 1837. Last is 4pp., 7.75 x 9.75", Aug. 18, 1838, addressed to sister, but forwarded through Jonah. All of these are written in a very small, close hand. The September letter begins: "You can have no adequate idea of the emotions which the [receipt] of a letter from America produces. You may think us weak, if you please, when I tell you that it is with difficulty we refrain from tears at the sight of a letter...from Home." Condition:All are heavily toned. Some have separations at expected folds. May 5 letter has significant insect damage to last 2 pages (rear leaf). Most still readable (but you may need a magnifier).
