Engraved title vignette, 10 full-page engraved plates (small abrasion on the first, small marginal loss in the fifth), ornamental initials, head- and tail-pieces. (Marginal tear crossing text on Y1, small marginal repair on Pp2.) Late 17th-century French red morocco gilt, covers with outer sawtooth and floral roll-borders, wide inner dentelle border built up from leaf, floral, circle, dot, shell and star tools, centering a cartouche filled with a semis of fleur-de-lis and surrmounted by the bishop's mitre and crook, spine in seven comparments, with six single raised bands, gilt-lettered in one, a repeated panel in the rest, board-edges and turn-ins gilt, edges gilt, comb-marbled endleaves, in the style of Derome-le-jeune or Padeloup (a few scuffs on front cover). Provenance : Msgr. B. Mariae de Becco (inscription on title; possibly bound for him) -- Estelle Doheny (morocco bookplate; purchased from Dawson's Bookshop, Los Angeles, 30 July 1931) -- donated to SMS 1937.
