Provenance : gathered from various sources, most volumes ex-library (again from multiple institutions) with assorted ink-stamps, mailing labels, notations, etc. a remarkable uninterrupted run of this important and influential children’s book periodical , established by Bertha Mahony Miller in 1924 (and edited by her until 1951). The Horn Book Magazine was created to promote quality children's book through book reviews and related articles ("to blow the horn for good books"). It began in October 1924 as The Horn Book Published Four Times a Year by The Bookshop for Boys and Girls ("Magazine" was added in June 1926, Vol II, No 3). An invaluable resource for use in the study of children's books of the 20th century. Special articles and thousands of book reviews (and advertisements) concentrate on the major children's book authors and illustrators of this era, and though largely focused on the American publishing world, many English and continental artists are also featured: there is for instance a special emphasis on the editor's friend Beatrix Potter whose final (posthumous) original publication appears for the first time in these pages: "Way-by-Wall" : May-June, 1944).
