MILITARY UNIFORMS -- [A collection of original drawings and hand-coloured prints of Russian military costumes, ca. 18 t h-and 19 t h-century.] 59 pen, ink and body-colour drawings, many with manuscript captions, and 30 engravings, all but one hand-coloured, mounted on 41 leaves in two albums with marbled boards by J. Hess of Geneva (binder's ticket) Provenance : Wendel (bookplates). A collection of drawings and engravings of uniformed Russian officers, artillery, cavalry and infantry from various regions and divisions -- including Cossacks, Tartars, Ukrainian guards, etc., and including a drawing of Peter I on horseback. One of the albums includes a manuscript title-page introducing the work as Russische Militärkostüme und Volkstrachten by Gottlieb Wagner von Konolfingen, suggesting a possible source or attribution for some of the drawings.
