[Alan] Partridge (1785-1854)", manuscript in the hand of Samuel Townsend from notes made during Partidge's lectures at Tammany Hall, 28 July - October 1818. 142 pages, 4to, 192 x 160 mm. (7 9/16 x 6 3/8 in.), written in a neat hand in a blank notebook, bound in quarter calf and marbled boards, enclosed in a modern quarter blue morocco slipcase. An unusually elaborate and quite attractive synopsis of lectures by a respected military engineer, drawing on examples from Napoleon's campaigns, the American Revolution, and incorporating details of forts in the New York area, illustrated with a number of finely rendered ink diagrams and 3 full-page drawings (one in colored inks) of battles and forts (one being a detailed map of Forts Greene, Swift and Lawrence in Brooklyn, which Townsend toured in October 1814).
