Engraved frontispiece by GIOVANNI PAOLO BIANCHI after SIMONE DURELL and 3 engraved plates (2 folding) by Bianchi after GIOVANNI AMBROGIO PESSINA. Original flexible paper boards (spine perishing); cloth box. Upon the death of PHILIP IV (1605-1665), King of Spain, funeral services were held by the order of the Governor of Milian, Luigi de Guzman Ponze de Leon, in the Cathedral at Milan on 17 December 1665. Barella, identified as the author in the dedication, provides a desccripion of the solemn ceremonies including the funeral oration delivered in Latin and also accounts of the taking of the oath of allegiance to Charles II, the son of Philip IV, and the new King of Spain. The plates illustrate the funeral apparati adorning the columns of the Cathedral and the spectacular catafalque designed by artist Giovanni Ambrogio Pessina. Also included is a floor plan of the church outlining the arrangement of the tomb and apparati . Vinet 562.
