Mickey Mantle's 300th Home Run Ball, Framed Photo Display and Box Score Mickey Mantle hit 536 homers in his 18-year career, over outstretched gloves, green monsters and occasionally tape measure jobs out of the stadium. On July 4, 1960, Mantle smacked this ball out of the park. His three-run first-inning home run off Washington's Hal Woodeshick, the 300th of his career, made Mantle the 18th major leaguer to join the 300-HR club, even though the Yankees dropped a 9-8 decision to the Senators. The number "300" has been written in blue ink in large letters. Nearly fifty years after the event, this ball, the one Mantle smacked for his milestone 300th homer, survives with a legacy shared by many other prominent baseballs from Mantle's career. The ball joined several of Mickey's personal artifacts, including his Gold Glove Award, 500th home run ball, 1000th RBI ball and First career home run ball when they were donated to the Little League Museum in Baxter Springs, Kansas. Several of those items eventually reached the marketplace when that museum de-accessioned some years ago, including Mantle's First home run ball which was sold by Sotheby's in December, 2004 for $189,750. Prior to its offering here, Mantle's 300th home run ball has rested in the hands of a private collector who has owned it for many years. The ball is accompanied by framed display which includes a copy of the box score of the 300th homer game and two photos of this ball on display at the Baxter Springs Little League Museum next to many of the other Mantle mementos previously mentioned. The ball is toned from age and there is a strip that appears to have resulted from the presence of tape at one time, typical of other Mantle milestone balls originating from the Baxter Springs Collection.
