MICHAEL COLLINS The Path To Freedom [articles and speeches]. Dublin, Talbot Press, 1922, first edition, portrait, d.w. Kethleen McKenna's copy (confidential secretary to Collins and other members of the Free State Government), with her signature on half title dated August 1922, and with her manuscript inscription, 'Printed from notes partly prepared by M.C. in collaboration with Moya [Llewellyn Davies], and corrected after his death. All the notes, and preparation for publication, passed through me. See typed copies in my files. K. McKenna.' An important copy. Kathleen McKenna was employed as a confidential typist initially on the preparation of the Irish Bulletin (the underground Republican press bulletin, 1919-1921), and later by senior Republican and Free State Ministers including Griffith; she was in London for the Treaty negotiations. Her inscription in this copy confirms the authenticity of the Collins material, on which some doubts have been cast. She later married an Italian officer, Captain Vittorio Napoli. Moya Llewellyn Davies (nee O'Connor, Irish-born wife of a liberal Welsh solicitor), was a close friend of Collins in his final years. She had a house at Killester, where it is said she worked with Collins on these articles and speeches. Provenance: Collection of Kathleen Napoli McKenna, by descent.
