Objektsbeskrivning MERCATOR, GERHARD - HONDIUS. Atlas sive Cosmographicae Meditationes de fabrica mundi et fabricati figura. Amsterdam, Johannis Cloppenburgh, 1632. Oblong folio (c. 215x280 mm.). 749 pp. Engraved title within engraved and historiated border, on verso of title red armourial bookplate, 179 engraved maps (complete with world map with 2 hemispheres, the pole, the 4 continents, and many maps of Europe, a few of Asia and America; title with some offsetting from bookplate, also on next leaf [dedication leaf], some faint dampstain to upper part, some soiling; text and maps with some dampstaining to the beginning, 1 map lacking part of margin, some spotting and soiling, a few maps with minor burnholes to lower part, small tear to one margin). Latin text. Signature of the owner on printed title, dated 1933. Contemporary brown full calf binding, partly worn and rubbed, warped covers, some worming. Second Cloppenburg edition of Atlas Minor. Most maps engraved by Pieter van den Keere Provenance: Dr Ivan Klastersky (1901-1979), botanist and taxonomist in Czechoslovakia. He worked as a researcher in the National Museum in Prague. The Mercator atlas was bought by him in the 1930ies.
