The original typescript with numerous manuscript corrections in pencil and red crayon, circa 1963, bound with two original pencil studies by Dick Martin (on three sheets), copies of various correspodence between McGraw and Martin discussing the project, and a copy of letter from McGraw to Meyer. Modern burgundy gilt lettered cloth. 10 3/4 x 8 1/4 (28 x 22 cm); approximately 200 pp. Crease to rear endpaper, light spotting at hinges and fore-edge; Together with a copy of the finished book. Merry Go Round in Oz was the fortieth book in the Oz series. The original sketches included with this typescript were used as the endpapers in the finished book. As the 1967 note to Meyer attests, sales of the book were slow and Reilly & Lee saw no reason to continue the series. At Meyer's urging, the McGraws would write another Oz Book, The Forbidden Fountain of Oz, published in 1980 by The International Wizard of Oz Club. Provenance: Gifted to Fred M.
