Provenance: G.H.A. Wilson (bookplate). FIRST EDITION of this compilation of Maxwell's papers, comprising some of the Scottish theoretical physicist's greatest work. Considered by many to be the 19th century scientist who had the greatest influence on 20th century physics, Maxwell contributed greatly to the field of electromagnetism and helped lay the groundwork for future discoveries in special relativity and quantum mechanics.
