London, 1889-1902. 389 plates of views, maps, plans and details of archaeological sites, mostly autotypes from photographs by MAUDSLAY and H.N. SWEET, some color or tinted lithographs, a variant for plate 49 and 4 title pages to be used in the binding of the book into 4 vols. 16 (of 17) original parts, oblong folios, cloth-backed printed paper over boards (some scuffing and edge wear); first plate in each volume has darkened from the card of the covers offsetting onto the plate, two plates in part VI loose, binding loose on two other parts, but generally very good condition, free from foxing and with the photographs clear and striking. FIRST EDITION of this gentleman adventurer's record of the Mayan ruins. [With:] Another copy of part VI SIGNED BY MAUDSLAY in upper-left corner of front cover. (17)
