Contemporary limp vellum, covers with stamped silver borders, upper cover stamped with initials "P E F" at center, lower cover with central ornament. Provenance : Botanisches Institut der K.K. Universität Wien (ink stamp on title); Kenneth K. Mackenzie, Horticultural Society of New York (bookplate); An Important Botanical Library (sale Christie's New York, 5 June 1997, part lot 521). The first Camerarius edition, with the first appearance of the remarkable Gesner/Camerarius suite of woodcuts. "The illustrations feature details of the flowers and fruits which are not commented upon in the text" ( Cleveland Collections ) and set a new standard in botanical illustration.
