Beschreibung:

MATISSE, HENRI Autograph letter signed by Henri Matisse , single leaf of about one and one-quarter pages, dated September 7 1929, about 28 lines in all. Housed in a half green levant folder with a portrait of Matisse laid into a window. Original mailing creases, some very minor separations on the left margin (about a quarter-inch), overall in attractive condition. Addressing "Cher Monsieur," Matisse remarks on receipt of a packet of proofs, and mentions that he is sending it by courier to Pierre Matisse, who will relay his observations to the unnamed recipient of the letter. Matisse addresses specifics of the images, and thanks his recipient for sending him the proofs, and expresses hope that complete proofs will be forthcoming (clearly this was a project over which he did not have control). A complete translation is available upon request. According to the Archives Matisse, to whom we express our thanks, the recipient was likely G. di San Lazzaro. C The Collection of Paige Rense Noland
