Title: Massive archive of over 300 theatrical broadsides from the Boston Museum Author: ** Place: Boston Publisher: Date: 1854-1855 Description: Approximately 335 broadsides. Most approximately 51x20.5 cm (20x8"), printed on papers of various stock and color. Fabulous large archive representing the vast majority of the theatrical performances held at the Boston Museum between August 7, 1854 and July 30, 1855. Included in the year's entertainment were productions based on the novels by Charles Dickens "Hard Times" and "Oliver Twist", Harriet Beecher Stowe's "Uncle Tom's Cabin", several of Shakespeare's plays, various other classical theatrical standards as well as lesser known popular works. The Boston Museum, also called the Boston Museum and Gallery of Fine Arts, was a popular theater, wax museum, natural history museum, zoo, and art museum. Founded by Moses Kimball in 1841 (theatrical performances began in 1843) the theater was in operation until 1903. The condition and consecutive nature of this archive leads one to suppose that it may have come from the offices of the theater itself or that of the printer, Hooton's Press. These are clearly uncirculated copies and have been preserved as an archive since 1855. Lot Amendments Condition: Some with faint staining in the lower margin but overall fine. Item number: 210296
