Margot Fonteyn (1919-1991) English ballerina, a pair of size 4 pink satin ballet shoes by Freed of London, worn by Britain's greatest ballerina, the late Dame Margot Fonteyn In fine condition though obviously worn; the soles of both are numbered 176. This lot includes a handwritten letter from Margot Fonteyn written on November 20th from the Randolph Hotel Oxford, the letter reads as follows: Thank you and John so very much for the lovely bouquet which greeted me on my first appearance in England. I am very touched by your kind thought. I have seen the progress on the house and think that it is extremely unlikely that I will have it furnished and ready to move into myself before some time in February but your part is already nearly all painted and looking very nice I think. I think the workmen should be out sometime around Christmas. It seems absolutely safe to ask you to start moving in on whatever date you choose around January 1st and I will engage you both from the day you move in and start settling yourselves in. There will be a great deal of work to be done all over the house and I will need you there to take delivery of furnishings as I buy them. Would you just let me know when would be the best day for you to move. Yours truly Margot Fonteyn This lot further includes a Service of Thanksgiving for the Life and Work of Dame Margot Fonteyn de Arias DBE, plus newspaper clippings.
