Venice: Sons of Aldo Manuzio, October 1542 [Bound with:] Navò, Curzio Troiano. Letere de diuersi eccelentissimi signori a diuersi huomini scritte. Libro primo. [Venice: Curzio Troiano Navò, 1542?] First edition of Lettere volgari, edited by Paolo Manuzio, whose name appears in the preface, bound with a collection of letters edited and published by Curzio Troiano Navò, including several addressed to Veronica Gambara and Vittoria Colonna. Two works in one volume, 8vo (156 x 94 mm). (Manuzio) Italic type, 29 lines plus headline. collation: A-Z8 AA8: 192 leaves, foliated. Woodcut Aldine device on title-page and verso of final blank. (Some dampstaining and spotting, lacking AA3.) — (Navò) Italic type, 28 lines plus headline. collation: *4 A-M8 N4: 100 leaves, foliated. Woodcut initials. (Some dampstaining and spotting.) binding: Venetian burgundy morocco plaquette binding (see Hobson), ca. 1542 (164 x 105 mm), gilt fillet flanked by blind fillets around sides, undulating lozenge of single gilt fillet enclosing on upper cover LETERE DI DIVERSI AVTORI, oval plaquette on lower cover of Vulcan, Venus, and Eros taken from plaquette of Giovanni Bernardo da Castelbolognese (Moliner 189), spine with full and semi-raised bands in eight compartments, edges gilt and gauffered with twin rows of dots around sides. (Spine and corners restored, joints cracked with some loss.)
