MANUSCRIPT] VOET, JOANNES. Notae in Hugonis Grotii Introductionem ad jurisprudentiam Hollandicam . N.p, n.d. Three volumes, 17th or 18th century vellum, lettered in ink on spines. 8 1/2 x 6 3/4 inches (21 x 17 cm); about 500 ff. in a hand of the period. Some soiling, internally clean, Bar Association stamps. Voet was one of the preeminent figures in Roman-Dutch law, a system of civil law used in the Low Counties in the 17th and 18th centuries, and still in use in a modified form in South Africa today. This manuscript is based on Voet's commentaries on Grotius, and is likely a fair copy. The Dutch National Archive in the Hague holds a similar, though shorter manuscript, which is a dissertation. As Voet died in 1713, it is possible that these notes incorporate material from his lectures. C The New York City Bar Association
