Titled on the first page "A Book containing a memorandum of the towns I pas'd thro, when I went with brigadier Churchill into France and Italy," the journal describes sites of interest including chateaux (Chantilly, couen), convents and monasteries, art collections (the Academy in Parma, the Palazzo at Modena, with a detailed list of the paintings in each room), towns, military fortifications and manufactures, and lists the post towns along each route. The anonymous author devotes a long section to Rome, describing its antiquities, museums, and dignitaries, including Pope Clement XII, glimpsed on the anniversary of his coronation.
