Likely Indian, circa 18th century (or before?). Approximately 446 ff., with two fine illuminated bifolia ("carpet pages") with a liquid gold background at the beginning and end of the work. In a later binding of cloth, the upper and lower covers with what are possibly the original panels from the binding affixed, marbled endpapers. 8 x 5 inches (20 x 12 cm); 13 lines per page, written in a very refined script, text within blue and black ruled gold frame; each page with an outer leafy border in shell gold. Gold roundels in text, sura headings written in black and white on a liquid gold background and pale blue background. Within the main text, there are seven double-page openings with liquid gold floriated borders; on these leaves the text is outlined in gold. The outer margins throughout have occasional gold and polychrome roundels. Two minor adhesions noted, overall internally clean and fresh. A restrained but exceedingly beautiful specimen of Islamic calligraphy; sold with a micrographic octagonal Qu'ran (disbound), and another manuscript, also worn. C
