Beschreibung:

An Open Letter to the Fool of Universal History, by Michael Zametkin. Brooklyn, New-York, ca. 1890. English. Michael Zametkin (1859-1935) – an American-Yiddisher Socialist, journalist and workers-leader. Was a member of a group of Jewish intellectuals and activists for workers rights in New-York. One of the first editors of the influential paper the Jewish Daily Forward. The manuscript describes an allegorical vision, as a result of humanity's wrong way. It is possible that the composition was influenced by the activity of the National Detective Agency "Pinkerton" during the Homestead Strike, in 1892 . The composition is about a woman rising from chaos and the destruction of humanity, and discloses herself as a mother of all scapegoats and fools of universal history. An inscription in pencil handwritten by Zametkin appears on the first leaf: "Send to Ed. Bellamy to be published", probably to the periodical "New Nation" which was published during the years 1891-1894. 15 pp, 27.5 cm. Good condition. Folding-marks and stains. Tears at borders of first and last leaves, with slight text-omissions.
