Blue publ. cloth by Meersmans (Brussels) (rubbed, vol. III lower board def.). Rare complete set with first ed. of the supplement and 3 other vol. of second ed. Handbook for the Belgian colonizer residing or preparing to live in the Congo in order to help him adapt because "the European who enters the Congo Basin finds very different living conditions there from those which were before him usual". It contains information on relations with Africans and some "civilizing missions" to be fulfilled by the colonist, hygiene and medicine with a small medical form, law and construction. The supplement deals with the military art by delivering the advantages of enlisting Congolese soldiers. Ill. with pl. (full-page) in-text and 4 folding cross sections of colonial houses. Ref. BL.
