MAKHAEV, Mikhail Ivanovich (1716-1770). 'Vues des bords de la Neva en remontant la rivière entre l'Amirauté et les batimens de l'Academie des Sciences', from Plan de la Ville de St. Petersbourg . [St. Petersburg: 1753]. Double-sheet (515 x 1365mm) hand-coloured engraved view by G.A. Kachalov under the supervision of I.A. Sokolov, caption title in Russian and French, glazed and framed (minor marginal tear repaired, small repair to image). Provenance : 'RFM n421' stamp on verso. A handsome handcoloured panoramic view of St. Petersburg from the first series of engraved views of the city. It was commissioned by Empress Elizabeth, daughter of Peter the Great, as part of the 50 t h anniversary celebrations of the founding of St. Petersburg in 1703.
