Major League Baseball All Century Team Tiffany Gold Pocket Watch Presented to Walter Johnson Family In 1999, a panel of experts assembled by Major League Baseball selected the 100 all-time greatest players of the 20th century. More than two million baseball fans worldwide then voted to determine the top players by position from this elite group. A blue ribbon panel then added five legends to narrow the list down to an elite thirty-man team dubbed “Major League Baseball’s All Century Team." On October 24, 1999 the players were announced in a ceremony at Turner Field in Atlanta prior to Game 2 of the 1999 World Series. During the event Major League Baseball Commissioner Bud Selig presented to our consignor, representing his grandfather, Walter Johnson, this beautiful Tiffany gold pocket watch for Walter Johnson’s selection as a member of Major League Baseball’s All Century Team. Engraved on the front of the watch case is “Major League Baseball All Century Team” with the MLB logo etched below. On the back is a second longer logo with “Walter Johnson Pitcher” and “All Century Team” below in half moon lettering. Also, included is the attached gold vest chain. This lot also comes with the Tiffany velvet bag, box and carrying bag as well as the official signed presentation letter by Commissioner Bud Selig. One of only 30 such watches made for this historic event. LOA from Walter Johnson’s grandson, Hank Thomas.
