MAGRITTE, René (1898-1967). Autograph letter signed ('M') to 'Jacques', [n.p.], 'lundi' [n.y.], including a surreal SKETCH in pen and ink, one page, folio , on thin paper (two faint spots). 'Une vache couchée dans une prairie - sur le dos et les flancs de la bête se trouve posé l'inévitable: un château fort ...': Magritte conjures up a series of surreal images and tales from his week away by the sea; in addition to his sketch, he describes a scene where a father cunningly manages to buy an icecream for only one of a dozen children, and adds the thought that 'les francais sont religieux par passion alors que les allemands le sont par raison'.
