MAGNIFICENT EAGLE MEMORIAL STATUE FOR CHARLES M. SCHOTT, FAMOUS FOR DONATING OVE...

Stands approximately 70" tall, with pedestal and Eagle in 2 pieces. The pedestal is decorated with a hexagonal central shaft with Gothic style windows on a hexagonal base. The spread wing Eagle stands on a crowned orb inscribed "TO THE GLORY OF GOD / AND IN LOVING MEMORY OF / CHARLES MANDEVILLE SCHOTT, JR. / 1846 (Maltese Cross) 1919". Charles Schott is best remembered as a significant contributor to the Metropolitan Museum of Art's Arms and Armor Department, with the Met's Bulletin, Volume 14 (1919), mentioning a collection of 122 pieces donated by Charles the year he died. Numerous pieces of Charles's are still in the Met and are frequently exhibited. CONDITION: Both the Eagle and the pedestal are in excellent condition, free of cracks or dents. A significant piece associated with one of the top museums in the world, and a contemporary of several notables, including Bashford Dean.
