Macmichael (William) Journey from Moscow to Constantinople , in the years 1817, 1818, 6 aquatint plates, [Abbey Travel 20; Atabey 747; Blackmer 1054], 1819 bound with Legh (Thomas) Narrative of a Journey in Egypt and the Country beyond the Cataracts , lacking half-title, with folding engraved map and folding engraved plate of scripts, [Blackmer 999; cf. Abbey, Travel 267, second edition only], 1816, together 2 works in 1 vol ., first editions , some light foxing, contemporary half calf, spine gilt with red roan labels, joints slightly rubbed, 4to ⁂ "Macmichael was elected a Radcliffe travelling fellow in 1812, and he made several journeys to the Levant between 1812 and 1817. On this last journey he was accompanied by Thomas Legh who had just produced an account of his own travels in Egypt" (Atabey). Much of Macmichael's book describes Legh's journey through Palestine and Syria to Constantinople which he does not write about in his own book. It also contains a description of Moscow, particularly concerning the rebuilding of the city following the fire of 1812.
