Macara, Andrew b1944 NEAC, RBA British AR, Sailboats, Bray Dunes. 25 x 30 ins., (63.5 x 76 cms.), Oil on Canvas, 2005 Signed. Andrew painted this scene at Bray Dunes, which is just north of Dunkirk. He and I had tried to set up chapter 5 of the book I was writing to illustrate how a painter sees a scene and then translates what he sees onto canvas. Unfortunately the wind was so strong, I was unable to hear what he was saying, so we decamped to Bergues. Nevertheless Andrew painted several excellent pictures from sketches he drew at Bray Dunes. As ever his skill in depicting light and movement in water comes to the fore.
