1989 vintage Colt Sheriff's Model single action revolver, serial number SA71404. 5 - 1/2" round barrel in .45 Colt with single line barrel address, blade front sight, and V-frame notch rear. Blackpowder frame with center pin retaining screw rather than traversing center pin latch. Full blue finish. 2-piece plain factory wood grips featuring a gold Colt medallion on either side. Accompanying this lot is a factory letter confirming serial number, caliber, barrel length, royal blue finish, and shipment to Paul Zamsky at Colt Firearms Hartford, Connecticut in a June 26, 1989 shipment of one gun. Letter further documents that this "is a pre-production model used for development of the Sherriff's Reserve Edition. It was then returned to inventory and sold as a factory second to Colt employee, Paul Zamsky, who at the time of purchase held the position of Supervisor of the Shipping Department. It is interesting to note, that currently Mr. Zamsky holds the position of Supervisor of the Colt Custom Shop." Factory letter is accompanied by a letter dated October 8, 1991 to Mr. Zamsky from Jim Alaimo, Superintendent, Colt Custom Gun Shop stating that this gun is one of five prototype guns that were made for the 1988 Colt Catalog revealing the planned Sheriff's Edition. These five guns were all selected and made from standard production guns, which is why this gun has a standard serial number. Complete with factory box. CONDITION: Excellent plus and near mint with virtually all of the original Colt royal blue finish remaining. Cylinder does not appear to have been turned or fired as there is no dragline. Grips are in matching condition. Bore is bright with sharp rifling. Box is fine and complete with high edge wear. An exceptionally rare Colt Sheriff's Model in high condition.
